What are the potential savings that a customer can make on VoIP call charges?

Can I keep my original phone number? Yes. When you sign up, you get a new VoIP telephone number. You can use this to start making and receiving calls straight away. When the transfer is complete, your original number will permanently replace the VoIP one. Other people won’t notice a thing – they’ll carry on calling you as normal on your original number throughout this process.

Can I use my computer when I’m on the phone? Yes, You can talk on the phone and surf the Internet at the same time.

Will I need to change my broadband provider? No. VoIP works over any broadband connection, whether cable or ADSL. No. You just need to have broadband. VoIP isn’t PC-dependant.

Do the people I call need their computer switched on? No, You can use VoIP to call any landline or mobile, anywhere in the world. It’s not PC-to-PC. It’s just the same as a traditional phone service, only cheaper. If you’re broadband service goes down, you won’t be able to make or receive calls using your VoIP phone line – including 999 emergency calls. If this happens, contact your broadband service provider to resolve the problem.

Will my VoIP phone work if the power fails? Ordinary phones do not need a separate power connection, but as VoIP relies on your internet connection, if your broadband router has no power, your phone won’t work either.

What about calls to mobiles or 0845/0870? You do have to pay for calls to these types of numbers.

What about 999 calls? You can call all public emergency services for free using your VoIP phone line. If your broadband connection goes down though, you won’t be able to make any outgoing calls, including calls to emergency services.

Do I need a headset to talk? No. Just a normal digital phone handset you’re likely to be using already.

Can I call people who use other VOIP services? Yes. You can dial any other telephone number, whether it’s VoIP, a traditional fixed line phone service or a mobile number.
