		<description><![CDATA[the Apple online store now says the tablets will ship from 7 June]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-2634" title="ipad" src="http://www.smeology.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/ipad-300x175.jpg" alt="ipad" width="281" height="132" />In what&#8217;s becoming a familiar tale for would-be iPad owners, there&#8217;s another delay to the tablet&#8217;s release in the UK.  The postponement follows several delays to the iPad&#8217;s arrival in the UK.</p>
<p>UK shoppers were initially told they would only have to wait until late March for the device but Apple subsequently moved the release date to late April. The release date was then delayed once again, being pushed back to late May.</p>
<p>Apple has not given a reason for this latest delay, except to say &#8220;demand has been off the charts&#8221;, leading to speculation the UK may have already sold out of its allocation of iPads.</p>
<p>The shipping date for the iPad in the UK has been put back: previously listed for 28 May, the Apple online store now says the tablets will ship from 7 June.</p>
<p>The delayed shipping date will only apply to new orders, however &#8211; those who have already pre-ordered an iPad can expect to see the device arrive on 28 May as planned.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[The move could save UK consumers and businesses almost £800m a year from 2015,]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Plans by Ofcom to slash the cost of calling a mobile phone could stifle investment in the next generation of super-fast mobile broadband networks, end free mobile handsets for contract customers, price millions of pay-as-you-go users out of the market and lead to a flood of job losses, mobile phone industry executives said tonight.</p>
<p>The regulator today prepared for a fight with the UK&#8217;s big four networks – O2,Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone proposed a huge drop in the termination rate to 90%, the charge the operators levy on each other and on fixed-line companies such as BT to connect calls, when the current price cap regime ends in 2011.</p>
<p><strong><script type="text/javascript">
var uri = 'http://impgb.tradedoubler.com/imp?type(img)g(16978030)a(1634024)' + new String (Math.random()).substring (2, 11);
document.write('<a href="http://clkuk.tradedoubler.com/click?p=60764&a=1634024&g=16978030" target="_BLANK"><img src="'+uri+'" border=0></a>');
</script></strong></p>
<p>But Ofcom is adamant that the mobile phone companies should be allowed to use mobile termination rates only to recoup the actual cost of carrying other people&#8217;s calls. The rates had been subsidising other parts of their businesses but operators will now have to recoup the cost of activities such as investing in new networks from the retail market. That could mean higher bills and an end to contract customers getting a new phone.</p>
<p>Ofcom admits it could even lead to customers being charged to receive calls – as they are on some US networks. In practice, however, mobile networks are likely instead to slash costs – possibly through job losses – and increase call charges, especially for pre-pay users who make up 60% of UK customers.</p>
<p>As for the threat that the new prices will force the mobile phone companies to halt investment in super-fast mobile broadband networks using so-called 4G – or LTE – technology, an Ofcom spokesperson said it expected future investment in mobile networks to be driven by the growing demand for data services, so &#8220;network investment will therefore be less dependent on mobile voice call termination charges than it was in the past&#8221;.</p>
<p>Ofcom has, however, performed a strategic U-turn, in effect backing plans set out by the European commission two years ago.  Ofcom said that it had carried out extensive research and now believes that termination rates should only be allowed to recoup the cost of carrying calls. It will consult on the proposals until June and make a decision towards the end of the year.</p>
<p>BT and 3 mobile have campaigned for a long time for rates to come down, they both welcomed Ofcom&#8217;s move.  It is believed that reductions in mobile termination rates are good for businesses and consumers alike and BT will make sure its customers see the benefit with cheaper calls to mobiles, including fixed price all-you-can-eat packages that take the worry out of calling mobile phones.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[BT has launched a broadband service that offers speeds of up to 40 megabits per second (mbps). ]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>BT has launched a broadband service that offers speeds of up to 40 megabits per second (mbps).   The new service, named Infinity, will use fibre cables and will give some customers an upload speed of up to 10 Mbs.</p>
<p>BT said 4 million homes and businesses would be able to get it by 2011. BT Retail said the basic 40mbps service will be offered for £19.99 per month on an 18 month contract. It will also charge an installation fee of £50 for those on the lowest tariff.  The current highest speed service from BT available to homes is 20 Mbs, though not all homes can get this top speed service.</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://skytv.at/william1967?CTY=1&amp;CID=9051"><img src="http://b1.perfb.com/b1.php?ID=9051&amp;PURL=skytv.at/william1967" border="0" /></a></strong></p>
<p>Only those who opt for BT&#8217;s most expensive tariff, £24.99 per month, will get the 10mbps upload speed. With the basic package upload speed is up to 2mbps.</p>
<p>As with lower speed services only those closest to BT&#8217;s exchanges are likely to get the full 40mbps.</p>
<p>The fibre service is being rolled out by BT&#8217;s Openreach arm and will be offered to other telecom operators to re-sell.</p>
<p>BT Retail said customers of the cheaper Infinity service would be limited to downloads of 20GB per month. Those paying more will get an unlimited service.</p>
<p>The faster broadband speeds that Infinity is based on, will be available to other telecom providers, so we can expect to see products from TalkTalk and Sky in due course, so the introduction of the faster speeds by BT will lead to a better broadband service for customers of a lot of telecom operators.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[The Samsung Omnia i900 is a light Smartphone, boasts a 5 megapixel camera and GPS. ]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The <strong>Samsung Omnia i900</strong> is a light Smartphone, boasts a 5 megapixel camera and GPS.  The Omnia i900 has a good 3.2 inch touchscreen, which is smaller than Apple’s iPhone but is big enough to see complicated websites clearly.</p>
<p>The Omnia is classy to look at thanks to a chrome-effect bezel and a dusky mirrored surround for the screen. The front face features just three buttons: send (to make a call), end and an optical joystick. The brushed black rear face is interrupted only by the very powerful camera.</p>
<p>The user interface is uses <strong>Samsung’s Touchwiz user interface</strong>. This has an arrowed tab at the left of the screen. A quick touch on the tab brings out a sidebar ribbon featuring various application widgets. You can drag these widgets using a finger onto the main area of the screen (the desktop I suppose we should call it) and drop them wherever you please. A finger tap then launches the application. You can drag the widget back to the ribbon if you no longer need it.</p>
<p>The Samsung Omnia i900 is Free on an 18-month plan with <a href="http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/mobiles/mobile-phones/SAMSUNG-I900-OMNIA/MONTHLY">Carphone Warehouse</a></p>
<p><strong><script type="text/javascript">
var uri = 'http://impgb.tradedoubler.com/imp?type(img)g(16997952)a(1634024)' + new String (Math.random()).substring (2, 11);
document.write('<a href="http://clkuk.tradedoubler.com/click?p=443&a=1634024&g=16997952" target="_BLANK"><img src="'+uri+'" border=0></a>');
</script></strong></p>
<p>What this means is that you can customise your home screen far more than many of the other touchscreen phones out there, although there is no way to add new applications to the ribbon. Weather and share price widgets are sadly lacking. The Omnia also comes with a stylus, which you can anchor to a hook on the top left edge of the handset.</p>
<p>The <strong>Samsung Omnia i900</strong> is a bit like the iPhone with it&#8217;s animated grid of coloured quick launch icons.  The Microsoft Office Mobile applications offering excellent support for email attachments. As you would expect too, the Omnia supports push email using all of the major systems, including Exchange Server.</p>
<p>We believe that the Omnia is an object of desire to compete with the iPhone.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[The Skype Phone allows users that’s why you’re able to make both ordinary 3G calls on this handset as well as using it to access Skype]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Skype Phone allows users that’s why you’re able to make both ordinary 3G calls on this handset as well as using it to access Skype voice over IP services.</p>
<p>To use the Skype Phone you need to pay a monthly subscription or pay for a handset then pay as you go.</p>
<p>So the Skype Phone is a mobile Phone that also allows you to make free Skype to Skype telephone calls.  3-Mobile provides the mobile telephone network and Skype does the VoIP part. </p>
<p>If you want a good basic mobile which is cheap to use and have a network of contacts who all use Skype, this handset is ideal.</p>
<p>The Skype Phone can be purchased on an 18-month contract from the 3Store.</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://3mobileshop.at/william1967?CTY=1&amp;CID=12633"><img src="http://b1.perfb.com/b1.php?ID=12633&amp;PURL=3mobileshop.at/william1967" border="0" /></a></strong></p>
<p>The Skype Phone handset is manufactured by handset maker Amoi. The Skype Mobile/VoIP combo phone, because that&#8217;s what it is offers a slim design and cool backlit buttons.  You can access the 3-Mobile network and 3’s Planet 3, to access tunes, games, and mobile tv clips, news and content from the likes of MTV and Warner Bros.</p>
<p><!--#include file="m63-article-related-attachements.html"--><!-- Call Wide Article Attachment Module --><!--TEMPLATE:call file="wideArticleAttachment.jsp" /-->Accessing Skype is pretty straightforward – you can set up a new account or access an existing one when you press the Skype button. Now this isn’t full-blown Skype here. You can’t use it to access SkypeIn and SkypeOut services – the ones that let you have your own follow-me telephone number and for you to call any landline or mobile number for a small fee. This is understandable – 3 wants you to use its network for this purpose.</p>
<p>Sound quality is generally good and with no problems with dropped calls in the time I have been using it.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[Households without access to modern-day, super-fast broadband in rural areas of the UK will benefit from a £1 billion investment.]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Households without access to modern-day, super-fast broadband in rural areas of the UK  will benefit from a £1 billion investment.</p>
<p>The funding was announced today (January 7th) by business secretary Lord Mandelson, who said it will upgrade the UK&#8217;s digital infrastructure so that more than 90 per cent of the population have access to the latest broadband. technology.  Investing in broadband will create jobs and give the economy a boost, while putting the UK at the forefront of the digital revolution.</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://skytv.at/william1967?CTY=1&amp;CID=9051"><img src="http://b1.perfb.com/b1.php?ID=9051&amp;PURL=skytv.at/william1967" border="0" /></a></strong></p>
<p>According to the government, this is &#8220;essential&#8221; if Britain is to remain a major player in the world economy, as only 70 per cent of people are expected to make private investment in broadband before 2017.</p>
<p>The Government will provide money for the Next Generation Fund which will give rural homeowners with sufficient broadband to enable them to keep up with urban regions.</p>
<p>Currently, only about half of the country has access to broadband with a speed of 50 megabits per second but the government fears those in more isolated locations will struggle to catch up.</p>
<p>Proposals to help those in rural areas were initially put forward by local council leaders last year and will make the UK only the second country &#8211; after Finland &#8211; to carry out such a scheme.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[ A recent survey hias indicated that British Broadband speeds surfing speeds increased by over a fifth during 2009.]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p> A recent survey has indicated that British Broadband speeds surfing speeds increased by over a fifth during 2009.</p>
<p>The average UK Internet connection is 22% faster than it was the year before.</p>
<p>The recent survey used data from thousands of user speed tests and concluded that the the average broadband connection ran at 3.7Mbps the previous year, in 2009 that figure had increased to 4.5Mbps.</p>
<p>The fastest provider was Virgin Media, which clocked up an average speed of 7.4Mbps by its users.</p>
<p>And the slowest? AOL, with barely a smidge over the 2Mbps mark</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://skytv.at/william1967?CTY=1&amp;CID=9051"><img src="http://b1.perfb.com/b1.php?ID=9051&amp;PURL=skytv.at/william1967" border="0" /></a></strong></p>
<p>In the future, the UK’s internet service providers may have to start to advertise average broadband speeds instead of simply advertising a service as “Up To”, according to the broadband comparison site top10broadband.</p>
<p>In a recent report from the regulator Ofcom, it was found that on average the speeds obtained by broadband users are only around fifty seven per cent of those advertised by the ISPs.</p>
<p>With the introduction of next gen broadband, speeds in the UK vary from .5 Mbps up to 100 Mbps.</p>
<p>This variance is dependent on where the broadband user lives and not on how much they pay.  A change such as this would assist the broadband consumer in making better choices when it comes to selecting broadband supplier.</p>
<p>However, it is anticipated that Broadband speeds will continue to increase in the UK as BT rolls out it&#8217;s 21st Century Network, which will upgrade their infrastructure throught the whole of the UK.  The BT 21st Century Network will be enabled to cover 60% of the UK&#8217;s population by April 2010 and offer complete UK coverage may not come until 2012.  The continued roll out of BT&#8217;s 21st Centuury Network will enable it to resell these faster broadband services to a number of other broadband providers and allow faster broadband speeds.</p>
