Bing takes on Google

Microsoft has unveiled Bing (www.bing.com), which it calls a decision engine, not a search engine, in direct competition with Google.

The concept of Bing is to bring more intelligence to the search, where Microsoft believes that present search engines are only as good at dealing with simple questions that have only one answer, such as who is the President of the United States.

Bing aims to help answer more complicated questions, such as, which car is best? or what film should I watch tonight?

Top answer these more complicated questions Microsoft has built specific parts of Bing to deal with more complicated questions.  The price comparison engine in Bing doesn’t only display prices from different shops, as Google Shopping does, but also pulls in expert reviews from multiple sources and adds advanced filtering tools.  Microsoft is also promising discounts from selected retailers if users buy through Bing.

Bing also has a similar tool for airline flights, which pulls in flight prices from all over the internet, introduces a fare predictor which works out when a flight will be cheaper.
